Clearances Needed For Work

Child Safety & Pennsylvania Background Check Requirements

Jump Start Sports is committed to providing a safe, positive environment for all children. Protecting participants is a shared responsibility of every coach, staff member, and contractor.

Child abuse awareness

All staff are expected to:

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children at all times
  • Avoid one-on-one situations whenever possible
  • Report any suspected abuse or concerning behavior immediately to management
Pennsylvania law requires certain individuals working with children to report suspected child abuse. If something feels off,
report it — do not investigate on your own.

Required Pennsylvania clearances

Anyone working with children may be required to obtain and maintain the following clearances, as applicable:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
  • FBI Fingerprint-Based Background Check (when required by law or role)

Clearances must be:

  • Current and valid under Pennsylvania guidelines
  • Submitted to management before working independently with children
  • Renewed as required by the state or organization

Ongoing compliance

Failure to obtain or maintain required clearances may result in:

  • Removal from scheduled programs
  • Ineligibility to work with children
  • Termination of contract or role

If you have questions about:

  • Which clearances you need
  • How to apply or renew
  • Reporting concerns

Please contact management for guidance before starting or continuing work.
